The Right Approach To Worship Guitar: Learn to Give Praise Through Music

by Jonathan Drake

Music has always been a favored medium of worship. In olden times, primitive beats and rhythmic chants were used in rituals of prayer. In the Bible, David danced before the Lord. As far back as Exodus, Miriam took her tambourine up at the flooding of the pursuing Egyptians, and danced, and sang the gratitude of the freed people.

As Christianity evolved and was taken up in many different countries, so did its music and rituals. Hymns were sung, and songs took on different styles from Gregorian to Gospel, and then modern worship music took on widely loved tunes of pop and rock. From the Jesus Movement of the latter years of the Sixties, spiritual music has gone on to influence popular music. Rock and roll was no longer considered the music of bad behavior and rebellion, but was made the tune of worship.

The guitar is an ideal instrument for worship - easy to learn, with its simple sound resonating sincerity. It is an instrument based more on chords than notes, similar to the voices of a choir with lifted voices. This instrument is suited for travel, and can be easily brought out of its case, all set and ready to go, wherever worship takes place.

Most worship guitar lessons begin the same way learning guitar for any kind of music. First, one has to learn how to position the fingers for chords and notes. As a lot of Christian music is based on chords and chord patterns, learning those chords will go a long way for the worship guitar beginner.

In the early part of your worship guitar lessons, you'll be learning the basics of reading guitar chord notation, strumming, tuning your guitar properly, and chord switching. If you kep at it, you'll eventually learn more advanced techniques, like chord substitution, sliding, plucking with the use of a pick, and reading tablature (notation that tells you how to move your fingers to play more complex songs). And once you've assembled a repertoire, you'll be able to fully experience the joy of prayer through worship songs.

Now, learning to play the guitar can be a long process which will need a lot of time and patience on your part. But as long as you find joy in what you learn, and joy in the prospect of praise through song, then your worship guitar lessons will go smoothly. Playing worship music on the guitar can be a deeply personal way to find God, and enrich your spiritual connection with Him.

Playing worship songs on the guitar is ideal for those looking to enhance their spiritual lives by making music. And taking worship guitar lessons can be a good way for you to form a deep relationship with the Lord. From learning the basics like Christian guitar chords and chord notation, to advanced strumming and plucking techniques, these guitar lessons will not only teach you to play, but can also take your spiritual life to a whole new level.
